The Team

Peter and Jane Bailey Peter and Jane Bailey, owners, were born in England but have lived overseas since 1969, first in Zambia, then Tasmania, Western Australia and, for the past thirteen years, the U.S.A. Six years ago they purchased Woody Nook Wines in Western Australia and regard Woody Nook at Woodcote as the perfect showcase for the wonderful wines produced by their winemaker Neil Gallagher. Jane spends a third of the year at the winery and hopes that Peter will soon be able to do the same i.e. retire from the aluminium business and enjoy a hectic but less stressful existence! They also look forward to spending longer periods in the UK now that they have ‘a little piece of England’ again and the perfect stepping stone in their travels between Australia and the U.S.A. Their 21 year old son Nigel graduated from university this year and is working in Tampa, Florida.

Michel Rosso   Michel Rosso is a very well-known figure in the hospitality industry in the Thames Valley area. He has been employed by many great establishments and most recently was the general manager and part-owner of The Copper Inn in nearby Pangbourne. We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have found a Manager with such extensive experience in all facets of the restaurant business. His charming personality and enthusiasm for his work will be noticed by one and all. Michel has one married son, a brand new grandson and lives with his wife Margaret in Caversham.

Stuart Shepherd   Stuart Shepherd, Head Chef was in Michel Rosso’s team at The Copper Inn before joining Michel Ricci at ‘Ricci’s on the Green’ five years ago and he is enjoying working with his former boss once again. Now that the restaurant is no longer specifically a French bistro, Stuart has created some exciting new ‘international’ dishes and is looking forward to doing so on a continuing basis. He is getting married to Justine in 2007.

Marta Szarangowicz is our invaluable 'Jill of all Trades'. She has been at the restaurant for several years and we are so pleased that she wished to stay on to continue in the roles of bar tender, cleaning lady and laundress. She is from Poland and married with two children.
